"The community vision is a space encouraging playful interaction in the heart of the Annex community. The design will achieve a high standard of design coherence and invention, while embracing sustainability."
- from the Community Design Brief

Ideas for improving Sibelius Square have been circulating in community meetings and neighbourhood conversations for several years. As a result, the Sibelius Square Working Group was officially formed at a community meeting with the assistance of the councillor’s office on March 7, 2006. The working group was given a mandate to research issues of concern, to build dialogue among user groups, and to discover common ground that could be used to build a more useable and beautiful Sibelius Square.
The working group has worked closely with Councillor Adam Vaughan, Parks, Forestry and Recreation, and the Annex Resident’s Association to gather information and begin laying out alternatives. We have also had input from hundreds of residents at community meetings, through informal conversation and email, and through two online surveys. The purpose of this research is to initiate a park design process, leading to the completion of a revitalization plan and construction. The research will assist the design team better understand community aspirations for the park as they negotiate the design process.
